How to calculate GST

Adding GST

GST Amount = Base Amount × GST Rate ÷ 100 Total Amount = Base Amount + GST Amount

Removing GST

Base Amount = Inclusive Amount × 100 ÷ (100 + GST Rate) GST Amount = Inclusive Amount − Base Amount

CGST, SGST and IGST

CGST + SGST apply to intra-state supplies — sales within the same state. The GST rate is split equally between the two, collected by the central and state governments.

IGST applies to inter-state supplies — sales between two different states. The full GST rate is charged as IGST and collected by the central government.

GST calculator FAQs

How do I calculate GST on an amount?

Select "Add GST", enter the base amount, choose the applicable GST rate, and the calculator shows the GST amount and the total payable, split into CGST/SGST or IGST depending on supply type.

How do I remove GST from an amount?

Select "Remove GST" and enter the GST-inclusive amount. The calculator works backwards to show the taxable (base) amount and the GST amount contained within it.

How do I calculate 18% GST?

Enter the amount, select the 18% rate, and choose Add or Remove GST depending on whether your amount already includes tax. Most goods and services in India fall under the 18% slab.

What is the difference between CGST and SGST?

CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST) are charged together on sales within the same state, each at half the total GST rate. Together they equal the full GST rate.

When is IGST applicable?

IGST applies to inter-state sales — when the buyer and seller are in different states — and is charged at the full GST rate instead of splitting it into CGST and SGST.

What are the common GST rates in India?

Common GST slabs are 0%, 0.25%, 3%, 5%, 12%, 18%, 28% and 40%, applied depending on the category of goods or services. 18% covers most goods and services.
